As a native Augustan who is still here since i work for the news, thank you for this post. I haven’t had time to sit with myself and just write about my experiences yet, but you really shed light to what we’ve been through as a community.
If you have a brother that went to DFA and played alto sax, it’s a very small world. Because I saw your last name and Wales and knew you had to be kin to him.
I hope your family is doing well during this time and staying hopeful and safe! I’m glad Tobi introduced me to your work, and I look forward to reading more!
Thank you for this, Rickey🧡. Honestly, the fact that I've been able to write this is purely down to the privilege of distance. While it's hard feeling so helpless, I'm so lucky to not be directly caught up in it. I have time to write whilst everyone stuck there has to prioritise basic needs. The closer you are to the destruction, the harder it is. So take all the time you need. I do not doubt what you eventually write will give readers a unique & incredibly intimate perspective.
Something that everyone on the ground has said to me so far is that the community is really pulling together. Hope you are finding a little comfort in that.
It's so crazy you know my brother!! I can't get over it! These unexpected connections on this platform bring me so much joy! ⚡
Sending so many prayers up for you & your family. I hope we all see the other side of this soon x
